Sing the Maine Road blues
|
THE magic of match day has been captured in a swansong to Maine Road as its day of demolition approaches.
Singer-songwriter Colin Rudd, whose dad briefly played for Manchester City, is a lifelong fan and has penned an epic six-and-a-half minute tribute to the club.
The tune is so popular that the club is now stocking copies in its superstore.
Colin, 52, grew up living in Parkside Road near the ground and has been a lifelong City fan.
He was inspired to write 'Eighty Years of Football at Maine Road' to mark the club's historic move from the stadium, which is scheduled for this August.
Poignant
Now the track is even more poignant, after the M.E.N. revealed that Maine Road is to be demolished after a bid by Sale Sharks to take it over collapsed.
Colin said: "My dad Jimmy played for them before the war and he used to take me and my brother Peter to matches when we were older.
"Peter died at Christmas and I wanted to write a song about him. The club meant a lot to him and it ended up being a tribute to him and Maine Road. "
